Welcome to my blog! Wondering what it is about? Look no further…well, look one line down further:
Short Version:
I am a believer in God who thinks theology should actually be interesting and relevant. I write about theology for people who want to go deeper in their faith, live a great story, and enjoy life to the full. New Posts go up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you want to keep up with them, subscribe here or in the box to your right!
Longer Version:
I have always loved understanding things on a deeper level. I even made the senseless decision to major in philosophy in college. I enjoyed the classes and learned a great deal about logic, reasoning, and clarity. But I encountered a problem with the philosophers I met. Everyone discussed the world’s problems, but no one did anything to solve them. Sure, they debated solutions that could theoretically take place, but with all of their reasoning they rarely discovered workable, practical solutions that related to today’s world.
This drove me nuts. What is the point of deliberating about problems if you stop at deliberation? I wondered if deep and intellectual ideas even matter in the real world. As people, we need something we can take hold of, something that can direct our lives and actually make them worth living. There needs to be application!
I am now a seminary student, and much of the theology can feel the same way to people. I have had people ask me, “how does anything you learn from a 2,000 year old book even apply to today?” Even some of my Christian friends think the in-depth theology topics I study are about as useful as anti-shark spray on Mount Everest.
I have this crazy idea, however. I believe that philosophy and theology (which are not too far apart in my opinion) can be useful for more than just tea time discussions. I even believe the problems we have in life actually have solutions. Most importantly, I think that we, as normal individuals and people, can be a part of those solutions.
The purpose of this blog, then, is to take concepts from the Bible and philosophy, weed out the junk, and make it come to life for the people of the world who actually want to do something to make it better. Here you will hear about the things that I learn through research, study, and experience. My life goal is to make those “deep” concepts relatable and useable. I do this by breaking down deep concepts, relating them to pop culture, infusing them with some humor, and giving some direction for what to do with it.
I believe that the world is an amazing place, and I am convinced that every individual has a role to play in making it even better. I hope you will join me, and I will do my best to serve you so that we can all walk with joy and purpose together.
