Well my second trip to Chicago in the past 5 months has been successful so far. Lots of Deep Dish Pizza, cold weather, and the Simply Youth Ministry Conference. It’s been fun hanging out with some of the guys on our staff team and learning some cool things. Here are a couple cool resources I want to share:

The first is a book by Les Christie called “Awaken Your Creativity.” I went to a seminar taught by this guy and really liked it. He’s very experienced in youth ministry (over 40 years) but still very young at heart and has fun with everything. He talked about how when we were younger (Kindergarten, for instance) we were willing and believed we could do anything. Now that we’re older, however, we say no to so many things because we are afraid of failing or because we’ve been told not to for no good reason. Being bold and willing to think outside of the box and being OK with failure will lead to much more open creativity. Apparently Edison tried 9,000 different filaments before he found one that works for the lightbulb.
You can see it on Amazon here: Awaken Your Creativity.
The second is a really cool and helpful video about lighting in video. You can do it for less than $100 and it looks very professional. Helpful for understanding the 3 points of lighting. Check it out here: DIY Lighting
Anyway, it’s been pretty fun so far. If anyone else has some cool resources about this stuff, holler!
